Literature Text
The world is stirring, the sky is on fire;
The stakes keep rising, the danger is dire.
Can you believe the sorrow we’ll see?
But we need to hold on so the future can be!
Don’t pretend that you know what’s best
Stop complaining, and give it a rest.
No one will save us if we don’t try;
No one’s perfect, we do or we die!
These false assumptions based on the past—
When everything changes, none will last.
Logic and reason are not what they seem,
Act your emotions and achieve your dream.
All that’s grown old is already dead,
What’s done is done, we forgot what was said.
Don’t cling to the past, it’s time to let go
Get ready for change, for blood in the snow.
The earth never stops spinning for any man;
No threat of bloodshed can lift this ban.
The truth can be painful and pain will be real,
The pain of the wounds, and the blood, and the steel.
When war begins, where will you stand—
Will you reach out to take my hand?
When darkness falls and we lose the Earth,
Will you still be here to see its rebirth?
There’s nothing to do, it’s no use hiding
We can’t escape our future’s fighting.
The new is your friend, the old is your foe,
And nothing is certain – but forward we go!
Let hypocrisy fall and relinquish your plans;
To destroy and rebuild is the work of our hands.
Lives are not toys for a tyrants mind,
But leave the condemned or be left behind!
Will a schism come between you and I,
Or can you accept that the living may die?
The war is a play that we cannot rehearse.
But the future’s unfinished – let’s write the next verse.

Punctuating Dialogue
For non-native English speakers and young readers: If you hover over a blue word, you'll see its definition.
Punctuating dialogue can be surprisingly difficult, even for people whose first language is English. It's one of the things that you see all the time in books, but you pay little attention to, and all your English teachers assume that you already know it. Sure, if you read a lot, you pick up the basics, but even then it can be difficult to unconsciously absorb all the rules. (Until 2012, I was making heinous mistakes with commas vs. periods. I'm still weeding out errors from my novel.)
Anyhow, for the sake of my fellow spirits who be

I can check #53 off my list now! I feel good about that.
I really mean to make a short story soon... poems are just so spontaneous though. They happen when they happen. Kind of like spontaneous human combustion. Or war.
