Rarely do I see a good story in which no one dies. It CAN happen, but it's about as rare as an eclipse, maybe more so.

Makes perfect sense really. A well written death can make for a very memorable scene, add realism to the storyline, and be the "best" (for want of a better word) way to end that character's storyline. As I writer myself (I know I haven't uploaded anything) I understand this. Expecting us to always keep our characters alive is like expecting all the professional writers of books, movies, and TV shows to do the same.

It's natural for things to die gruesome deaths in the wild, and in human society that happens too, whether we want it or not.
I still giggle like a kid when someone bawls over the "cute one" dying and rage over death scenes getting "aww, cute!" comments. :XD:

In two of my stories, everyone dies gradually until there's one or two mains at the end, and then they die. :> It's lotsa fun.

I don't kill off all of my characters. However, a good majority does die (let's say... a quarter to about half the cast of characters). I mean, then again my story is based around a war that lasts... say 5 to 6 years. I mean, of course there will be casualties

Lol, you have NO idea how much my friends hate me because I always kill a character off. xD I mean, of course they should die, most of them are of younger age, and have less experience. All characters have an ending eventually. :3

Hey, I kill off characters, too. Is it a perversion...y'know, how much fun it is? Is it a God-complex thing? Personally, I like the gravity it adds to a story, in regards to the finality and inevitability of death.

Huh. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into this...maybe I just like killing characters off for the lulz. :)

Maybe it is a God-complex thing. If so, fine; that's much less harmful than what people like us would probably do if we didn't have characters to kill. Just saying...

And it does add gravity, so long as it's done well and doesn't just happen out of the blue because the author said so. When people die, not redshirts but actual characters, everything gets more serious. The stakes rise. And sometimes the conflict gets personal.

Nah, writing was meant to be examined deeply. But maybe sometimes we just can't help but kill a character because we feel evil. :evillaugh:

Too true. Perhaps more people in the world ought to be writing, then. :) I've been there before. Killing off a beloved, established character can be cathartic, especially when you want to distance yourself from the story/fandom/character. I know it isn't just me that gets a little too attached to a character after a year or more of living under their skin. Killing them off is the perfect divorce, for want of a better term.

So, yeah. Thanks for making this stamp. I appreciate the sentiment.

Well, if you have a subscription, which I see you do, you can put a stamp in your journal or in any of those little custom boxes they let you put on your profile and journal pages by copying/pasting the text in the "Thumb" box under share. (For this stamp, it's :thumb112817721: including the :'s)

I keep all the stamps I like in one of the custom boxes, so that they stay next to the journal all the time- but others like to put them in the journal itself, or in the header/footer.

I just want to say finally a stamp for us that kill off our characters.

Killing a character to me is not something I do to often but when I do its usually long, elaborated, dramatic and sometimes funny as hell depending on what my friend throws out with me XD.

Thank you for the comment and the :+fav:! Much appreciated.

Dramatic deaths can be fun. Some people seem to enjoy them too much though- or is there such a thing as too much? I have one watcher who has killed a particular character over twenty times thus far. But mine seem to stay dead when I kill them, most of the time.

Funny as hell? I can only imagine...

You are very welcome.

This is true, I really don't enjoy it like happy giddy rainbows and unicorns raining skittles but sometimes find it like I said humorous. Wow .... usually mine stay dead as well unless I feel the need for them to come back for one reason or another.

They can have ironic deaths sometimes- like that?

I tried bringing one back once. It didn't work. Realistically, it was probably because I had become a better writer and that character was, of all things, too boring and static for me to write for anymore. But I like to think that he was Killed Off For Real, it's more dramatic that way.
